Cakes continued to be a part of my life as I created birthday cakes for friends. I even managed to squeeze a local cake decorating class into my busy university schedule. I loved my first career as a software engineer and spent 17 years in that industry. During this first career, it was not unusual for me to take a day or two off work to make a wedding cake for a friend or family member. Frequently my mom and I created many of these cakes together. Baking has always been a fun hobby for me, and I still enjoy the challenge of experimenting and learning new things.
Eventually a dear friend, Kathleen, and I were in a position to dream about our future. We came up with the idea to share our love of delicious cakes with others.
“We should make a really good cake, sized just right so that others would want to eat every morsel”. And with that, the dream began. Cakes de Fleur opened its doors in the fall of 2004. As you may guess it turned out to be a lot more work than we had anticipated and after a couple of years, Kathleen determined that this was not her forever dream and returned to her first love of teaching high school mathematics. We will always remain good friends.
I love to make people happy. I love the work, the industry, and the opportunity to meet new people and help them create their memorable events. I feel honored to share both casual and extraordinary life experiences through cake.

Nancy is our frosting expert and could probably make our delicious buttercream in her sleep! We appreciate her smile, hard work, and willingness to do whatever needs to get done.
